Rachel & Guest's Pets
Animals are my passion and I have had four dogs (four rats, four guinea pigs, five hamsters and innumerable fish!) of my own over 15 years.
During this time I have gained experienced in caring for both young, lively, reactive and more senior dogs, whether it’s feeding, playing, walking, sitting with, or giving medicines / eyedrops to reluctant pups!
I have recently given up work as a sales and marketing professional meaning I have time on my hands.
While I would like to invest it in owning every dog in need of rescue, my husband has set a limit (probably a sensible idea )!
Caring for other people’s dogs seems like a great way to indulge my love of dogs, AND to give dogs the exercise and enrichment they need when their owners are busy. Win win!
Dexter was my first ever dog. A perfect pug, he ruled the roost for 14 years. During his old age I learned a lot about caring for a senior dog: we dealt with all the challenges together (blindness, deafness, incontinence and mobility issues) until his quality of life was in doubt, then helped him across the rainbow bridge. It still breaks my heart!
Nancy was a pretty black pug, and Dexter’s little sister. She was an absolute sweetheart and couldn’t have been any more perfect (once she was FINALLY toilet trained after about 7 months and 2 carpets!).
Violet the French Bulldog was a foster who I cared for during Covid while she waited for a forever home. Bringing a dominant bitch into the household was quite a challenge for the other dogs, but she eventually slotted in, gained some much needed weight and after 5 months she went happily to her new family.
Lenny is my current dog, a typical Frenchie: adorable, hilarious, and really needy. He became fear- reactive towards other dogs after being neutered, so I have learned a lot about managing that when we are out and about, and at home with Dexter and Violet.
