Adam’s Animalcare @ Utrecht

Hello, my name is Adam, and I am a Masters student in Utrecht. I’ve been living here for nearly 4 years for my bachelors, but before that I came from a small village in Cyprus. Living there, and surrounded by the wilderness of the country, gave me my love and adoration for wildlife. Throughout the years, my family and I had fostered and raised various wildlife in the region and of our own. From birds, and rabbits to cats and dogs, I never grew up without having a best friend by my side.
Having various pets of different species, gave me the skills on how to properly train and treat my pet. I currently have 1 dog with my family, a golden retriever named Ozzy. Before Ozzy however, came Bingo the pug and Zeus the Rottweiler.

For all 3 of my dogs, my brother and I took sole responsibility with training, and administering their medications. Raising 3 dogs, allowed me to very well understand their body language and behaviour, what proper nutrition they should have, and what they can absolutely not eat. Most importantly however, how to make them feel safe and loved.

Outside my family pets, I also have a cat called Gabby which i’ve been taking care of for the past 2 years here in the Netherlands. Now while cats require less training than dogs as they’re their own boss, they definitely need the same love and attention.


I did volunteer work at a dog shelter in Ayia Napa, Cyprus for the s1mer of ***. While I have taken care of my own pets before, this was my first time learning how to take care of new dogs, as well as new breeds, with various sizes. There was definitely a learning curve, as I had to take care of dogs that can be more aggressive, shy or just extremely energetic. Every1 knows that every dog is different, but what I think makes me stand out in my services, is my knowledge and experience of how to properly take care of any dog, regardless of their breed, size or nature.
Not only that, but I also have experience with other 6als and pets, including cats, rabbits, and birds such as parrots, cockatiels, and budgies.
If I were to be completely h1st, I don’t often visit Cyprus after my Masters, so I miss my pets back home quite often. As I said, i’ve always had a pet best friend beside me, which really helped me deal with any stress I might have. Every time I get to host or take care of a pet, I begin to feel less homesick, and more myself.

While I must say, by no means am I a veterinarian, by working in a dog shelter, and next to veterinaries, i’ve learned how to pick up when they’re is a problem, how to administer medication, or an injection if necessary. For cats, it’s a lot more subtle than dogs, but signs of a problem can be still detected from their change in behaviour and habits. I also have a driving license, incase there was any sort of emergency.
